    Engine not starting

2007 21i. After taking it out several times already this summer, it decides not to turn over today. It basically made a clicking noise when trying to start, and the crank would barely turn with each noise. The batteries are good and the fuel is not a problem. Having said that, is there anything other than the starter that would be the problem?? Anyone experience anything like this before? Please let me know so I can be back on the lake by next weekend!

That really sounds like a dead battery to me.

I'll second that. Your boat's 2 years old, so it may be time for a new one. Batteries don't last very long in boats.

I'd measure the voltage at the battery WHILE you're cranking, or take it in for a "load" test. Do you have about 12.6vdc at the battery?

Another vote for a dead battery and throwing a volt meter on before pulling anything. Also try to jump it with a boost box. If it's a bad starter, it will probably act the same. Although a bad starter could spin over with the added CA'a and a shorted battery may still prevent a boost box from starting it.

Does it click once per turn of the key (your starter needs new contacts, or a new one). Or if you turn the key does it click a bunch of times (Sounds like your battery).

If your battery shows full volts and current from a multi meter, than take a look at your connections and wires. They may need cleaning, or even just tightening.

I always disconnect my battery if I'm not going out for a few weeks. One time I only connected the pos terminal hand tight, she wouldn't turn over on the boat ramp (I forget if I got nothing or a click). Tightened it up and she fired right over.

Also with two batteries, there maybe something the matter with the perko switch. Try bypassing the switch and use one battery that you know is good.
