    prop shaft strut

Anyone ever had a prop shaft strut bearing go bad? Ive had a strange noise between 1k and 1500 rpm in gear, kind of a whistle that changes pitch as you accelerate. It started after bending a prop last season. I had to go about 50 miles on the bent prop to get back to the ramp. I've changed the fluids, tried two different props, and set the motor alignment. Im thinking the strut is my next step. Any ideas ?

yeah... but I think it has something to do with the cracked propshaft.

What makes you think its a cracked propshaft, have you seen that before?
Where does the propshaft crack? Inside the cutlass bearing in the strut or at the v-drive end?

Thanks for the info, I am getting so tired of this noise im thinking of having both the shaft and the strut replaced, My thinking is maybe the shaft is bent slightly and that damaged the bearing.

its at the Ski dock in Austin. I took it in because it was grinding and wouldnt engage. The service manager said that the propshaft broke inside the coupler- and that there was a visible defect where the break is. Needless to say, with this issue combined with others... I'm not a happy camper. I'd really like someone from Tigé to call me.

Whats the trick for breaking the strut loose without damaging the gel coat? I have all bolts out but the silicone is really holding on tight.

Use a rubber hammer and give it a few good hits.

No problem. Just clean off all of the old stuff and coat it again when you install the new one. Get a roll of paper towels to wipe the glue off.

that is just one more thing you can say tige does good. the silicone they use for the underwater gear is tuff.

3M marine adhesive is what we use. i believe it's what tige factory uses.

Replaced the strut today, I checked the shaft alignment before and it was within .002". Then I replaced the strut and re-checked alignment it was .045" out. Took several hours to adjust it but ended up at .0015". It took both hand to turn prop by hand before now it spins freely with one finger! I'll put it in the water this week and pray the noise is gone

That 3m marine adhesive is sticky stuff!
