    TAPS question

We have a 2003 20V with the "TAPS II" system. This season the taps is stuck up in the default position. When the button is pressed the TAPS gauge jumps slightly and goes right back, and the voltmeter drops significantly when the button is pressed. After reading all the old threads last night for over an hour, I think I should look at the wires in the throttle handle to see if they are shorting out. I won't be at the lake again (where the boat is) until this weekend. Does this sound like the correct approach or is there something else that comes to mind?

    check the hydraulic fluid.
Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity. Albert Einstein

Sounds like a short or ground issue... Something electrical!

Sounds like a stuck ram........with a helper, have them push the button in the opposite direction as where the plate rest, while you apply a little pressure to the plate itself.

Thanks Chpthril, I'll give that a try, sounds easier than tearing the throttle handle apart and splicing wires.

Below is what I did on my TAPS system. If you want to check to see if it is the switch that is bad, you can chase the wires back to the control box under the drivers wheel and you will see 3 wires, red white and black. You can complete the circuit by touching the red & black together to go one direction and the white & black together to go the other direction. The switch only breaks/conncects the appropriate circuit. If your switch is bad, I have about 20 of them left.

Thanks, that should also tell me if the wires are shorting out in the throttle handle by bypassing that area.

                Apprecitate it!
