yea..I used a similar type tool that I bought at aco, this one had a steel handle with a bike chain attached that you loop around something then attach it to the handle again...it works..but it takes the paint off.

Mine was a Beeeatcch to break free but it did...turning it clockwise (looking from the top). I still cant get it back on though..the o ring wont go in.

Ive decided that the fuel filter on my boat will never get changed again...and when it is time to change it...its time to get a new boat.

The fuel will cause the O-ring to swell, this is normal. You should have gotten a new o-ring with the new filter

Oil change is easy on that boat......you did pull out the engine bay side panels, right

For us, we would be going through 2 boats a season if we traded boast V's oil changes

And yes, the filter housing is TIGHT! A piece of sandpaper wrapped around it will aid in getting grip.

I looked into buying an O-ring from 'mcmaster.com' (which is an unbelievable great online store for everything you could need) and decided to just try it one more time before I bought a pack of 10. and low and behold..it gave me zero problems. I remember how the o-ring sat inside the groove..and it was loose as a goose...the next day (and I cleaned it up too) it literally fit snug inside the ringlit and gave me no problems.

Do you have pics? I'm having to take mine off. Its a 2005 22V marine power engine. My concerns are the following:
1. How do you bleed out the existing fuel without it spilling all over?
2. Does it actually screw off? Mine has 3 screws on top. I can't remember, but it doesn't actually seem to screw on. Its almost as if the canister is glued on.
3. Once off will it be easy to put back on or will there be something I can easily screw up? say for example that O-ring mentioned.

I didnt bleed mine...and yea..I just let the gas spill into the bottom and out the drain hole. I hosed it all down after though.
I dont remember there being 3 screws on top of mine. Infact there was a sticker that said 'dont step' on it. I can get some pics the next time Im on the boat..but the weather has been really cruddy, so it might not be till friday that Im on it again.
The bottom of mine had 2 hoses going to it and there was a bold directly in the middle. I had to just take the bolt off and the bottom plate with the 2 hoses came off. It does look like its glued on..but its not...its tight.
My dealer gave me the wrong part...so I never got a new oring...but after I cleaned it up it shrank back down. For me..the oring was my biggest problem.
