fuel separator

My fuel separator (located in the canister with the sticker that says dont step on it) doesnt make sense.
I dont understand how the filter cap spins off. There are 2 lines directly under the bottom of it, and the lines are somewhat hard piped...so how does it spin off?

What engine do you have in your 22Ve? Sounds like a Marine Power?

If I remember correctly, only one line needs to be removed and it's a cooler line that circulated water.

2007 22V and yea..its marine power. So the lines at the bottom does have to come off?

Just remove the single bolt on the bottom. The bottom plate, along with the lines can then be moved out of the way enough to spin off the canister.

I got the canister off...but the filter looks nothing like the filter in the marine power manual..nor nothing like the guy at the tige dealer sold me. It more resembles something of a normal air filter...where as the one they sold me looks like more like an oil filter. Am I missing something? or did the tige guy sell me the wrong filter?

The Marine Power fuel filter is a replaceable element instead of a canister type filter (oil filter). Sounds like what they sold you is not correct.

you know it. what really urks me, is that I told him the part number didnt match what I needed...and he talked me into the wrong one. Im flustered...cant even get the old one back on...the "O" ring keeps blowing out the lip. Bad day...time to just stop and have a beer and call it a day before I freak.

You got the wrong part. I just replaced mine and it's the paper type with the black O ring. I ordered it from a non-local dealer since the local shop couldn't figure out what filter I needed.

For what it's worth, the P/N on the filter I got from the dealer (R58011-10) does not match the callout in my Marine Power manual.
But it is the right filter.

Questions...those lines on the bottom - are they water lines for some type of cooling?

I got the plate off, and dropped it and the aforementioned lines down. However, I could not get the canister to break free to get to the filter element. Does it unscrew with an oil filter type wrench?

They are water lines, but I don't know the exact purpose.

The canister unscrews, but can be a bitch. I used a rubber strap wrench from Harbour Freight.

yea..I used a similar type tool that I bought at aco, this one had a steel handle with a bike chain attached that you loop around something then attach it to the handle again...it works..but it takes the paint off.

Mine was a Beeeatcch to break free but it did...turning it clockwise (looking from the top). I still cant get it back on though..the o ring wont go in.

Ive decided that the fuel filter on my boat will never get changed again...and when it is time to change it...its time to get a new boat.

also...when I unscrewed mine off...it did not unscrew smoothly. something on the inside was catching..I initially thought that it was crossthreaded. Putting it back on (not all the way cause my oring issue) it turned smoothly. There is some plastic piece inside the canister that I assume circulates the fuel..my guess is that it was that, that was "catching" as I unscrewed it. It really didnt feel natural at all.
