This might be a dumb question. How do the pads hook onto the buffer? Mine came with just a foam pad with a permanent back that screws into the porter cable. The pads in this thread just have a hole in the middle right? If so, is there another part I need?

Maybe. Most pads just velcro to the armature that's attached to the spindle of the buffer.

try and put up a pic of what you got. the pad i used was threaded and spun onto a threaded adapter. it sounds like the one you have takes the slip on covers.

I attached some pics of what the buffer came with. I can't find a wool pad with a threaded backing like the one in the picture. I'm guessing I need to buy some kind of adapter?

i think and i say THINK the white pad is just that. that is the pad for polishing. does the white foam portion come off that black backing i think it should be held on by velcro like material. they sell different color foam pads. 1 for buffing one for polishing. hang on i will try to find pics 4u.

ok it looks like you do not have the velcro type. But the white pad you got with the machine is the buffing pad.in my earlier post i talked about using a foam pad. this is what you have. your not using a wool one like you are use to seeing. according to the sites im looking at you need the orange pad for cutting(compound) and use that white one for the finess-it. basically the orange is a coarse pad and the white is a fine.hope this helps.

it looks like your best bet is to buy the velcro adapter kit.they also refer to it as hook and loop.that way you can hook all the different pads you need quick and easy

You have a Dual Action polisher commonly referred to as a PC. A rotary buffer uses the big wool pads you are describing.

You need a velcro backing plate.

And you will need a set of foam polishing pads

Maybe some bonnets to remove the wax? I just remove the different polishes by hand. It is the easiest step and I go through a lot of terry cloth towels.

I just got the PC in and am glad everyone is having the pad discussion. I'm going to buy the backing plate and velcro pads now that I've seen all that I need. Now, on the PC, it goes from 1-9, what setting are you using?

I dont own one yet so im not real sure.i went old school with a high speed buffer.does the pc come with any instructions at all?
I do know if you search the internet and you tube you can find all the answers but i cant believe it does not come with instructions.if this is true thats poor on the compnys part.
from what i have seen the high speed is for the compounding and medium speeds for polishing.also most of the products i have seen will recommnd a speed for their use.

My Dual Action Porter Cable goes from 1-6. I have a chart that tells me which speed with each product.

What model did you get evilOne?

Here is the Meguiars forum thread, that contains the speeds, for the polisher. These are for the auto versions of their products, so you have to do a little cross referencing. It is a little outdated as well. There are new products that aren't on the list and pad #'s have changed as well. Maybe they will come out with a new list soon? I printed it out, laminated it and posted it on the inside door of my cabinet in the garage.
