    grease nipple

hi, just got my first tige, but it has been lying all winter in Scotland, got it in the water today to find that the steering has seized. Managed to get the steering mooving eventually, but still very stiff.
I,m told to grease the grease nipple. Does anyone know where this is?
Please help, dying to get out n the water.

If it is that tight, you will need to replace your steering cable. This is a common problem. I would also grease the rudder also.

      Never heard of it.

As far as stiff steering, sounds like a steering cable. You can grease the cable but thats only putting a bandaid on it. Best thing to do is replace it. They cost around $100 and are fairly easy to replace.

You can do a search If you like. There are also a couple how-to's on replacing them.

The "grease nipple" that you are referring to is probably to grease fitting that is above the rudder. Take the floor board up from behind the motor cover and you'll see it clear as day. Just like the front end fittings on automobiles. Might wanna check that cable too though like samw said. Welcome to Tige country.

What is the price of a gallon of gas in Scotland right now?

don't ask, working out at about £6 a gallon, anyhow, does anyone have pics of where the grease is to go above the rudder? Do I have to take the screws off the engine hood to get the floor plate off for access?
i really hope its not the cable, I want out today. The fact that it was not moving at all, then eased up a little, does this still sound like the cable?

9 times out of 10 its the cable. All the people that have complained about stiff steering have replaced the cable and its good as new.

There are a few pictures here and also how to change it. http://www.wakeboatworld.com/index.p...d=29&Itemid=35 Its really simple to do, takes maybe an hour.

Something that helps keep your cable from seizing is turning your steering wheel all the way to the left when you are storing it.

I had the same problem I greased my nipple and it went back to normal.

                        Had to do it. :-)

The easyest way to get to the grease fitting is to open the rear storage locker , while kneeling on the rear platform grab the carpeted pannel thats up against the back of the seat pull it down and back and then you have to squeeze it out of there , next remove both vent hoses and lift out the floor pannel , once the floor pannel is out you will see the rudder and grease fitting, you can have somebody turn the wheel while you grease it , next while the cable is fully extended grease the outter cable , while the floor is out you might want to purchase and install a excess cover as I did for my 2004 20i, hope this helps.
