Product Review - Snappy Teak-Nu

I picked this up at my local dealer. It comes with 2 brushes and two bottles of cleaner.



The brushes are color coded to match the liquid in the bottles. The directions are pretty easy to follow and you definitely want to follow the recommendation for wearing rubber gloves. Both solutions are nasty, even when diluted.

Here's the platform when I started:



You want to make sure the platform is dry when you start.

First you start with the darker solution. It will actually lift out all the Teak Oil you have applied in the past. I diluted mine at first because my platform wasn't too bad. Immediately after applying and rinsing the first solution, you apply the second. The directions recommend keeping them separate and using separate brushes.





You can see a couple of spots where I had to go back and use the first solution undiluted. But, overall, it came out looking like fresh teak.

Once dried, I applied Premium Teak Oil. The premium appears to work more like the teak oil you use for furniture and less like varnish. This results in a beautiful finish. I had to apply the oil twice and here are the results:



I definitely would recommend this product.

Looks nice. I bought some teak oil yesterday, and it's still coming out darker than I'd really like. Oh well. There is one board in particular that is coming out real dark.

By chance, do you think that the previous owner repaired some of the platform with another teak type of board? That could be one reason why some are lighter than others.

I thought I was gonna get sued last summer. A "friend of a friend" jumped onto my newly coated deck from the dock and crashed really, really hard. She ended up tearing something in her knee and getting some gnarly bruises. I though for sure I'd be calling the defense lawyer. It was ugly.

Be careful for sure--they get slick.

I wondered the same thing, but it doesn't appear the previous owner did any cosmetic maintenance, so I doubt it. Did any of these boats have a fiberglass platform from the factory?

I highly recommend the Premium Oil for that reason. It tends not to harden like the lower grade oils, which makes it less slick.

But, yes, you do have to be careful.

I'd try using this product or something like it to remove all the old stuff and clean it really well. Then adding the teak oil should give you better results.

BTW, this entire process took less than 30 min, minus drying time. It's really easy to do so I find that I have no excuse any more for not having a good looking platform.

Hows it holding up? I just ordered the 2 part Snappy from my distributor to do a restore on a customer's boat I am winterizing.

Hey chpthril. Did you have any luck with snappy?
I just tried this on my teak plate following all the directions and it came out all blotchy. Certain sections came out light brown; others remained dark brown/black. I tried more #2 and scrubbing and rinsing but it doesn't change. Now instead of looking a faded color, it looks light brown in certain sections with spots of dark brown. So far this has changed the appearance of my teak for the worse.
Any ideas as to how to fix this?
