    Winterization

I have a 2003 22v and have had it winterized by my local dealer for the past 4 years, however I want to take the time and save the money by doing it myself. Does anyone know where I can get a maintenance manual or winterization step-by-step guide for my boat?

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity. Albert Einstein

Not hard to do for someone that is kinda handy. Use the "search" button across the top of the page and you should find just about all you need to know.

If you have a specific ??? don't hesitate to ask.

I'm handy and plan on doing my own winterization this year as well. The dealer is 100 miles away and that's a PITA..

So, I do have one question...I use to remove the hoses to drain the block in my previous boat along with the block plugs. I would then run compressed air through the hose and further fluid would drain from the block plugs.

I have never opened the block plugs on the Ci to date. Any words of wisdom? How many? And they should be color coded I believe. I gots to go look And adding RV Anti Freeze. Just add it through one of the hoses?

          TIA, Paul

My 06 340hp is easy, takes about 10 mins to drain. I have a plastic petcock in each manifold, 1 pipe plug in the block on one side, and remove the knock sensor on the other. Disconnect the intake hose at the transmission cooler to drain it and to drain the impeller/water pump and v-drive cooler.

Marine antifreeze is not necessary if you get the block and hoses drained good, but an added level of protection.

              Thanks for your reply!

Am I correct in removing one of the hose the fill the engine with Anti Freeze?

                Changine oil during winterization.

Question about oil to use. I have a 2000 21i and I was told to use 5w-30 Mobile one Synthetic oil, but my books says this:
The use of non-detergent oils, multi-viscosity oils, synthetic oils, low quality oils or oils that contain solid addititves are specifically not recommentded. Will the synthetic hurt anything or should I use something else?
                Thanks

While the boat sits over the winter, how important is it that it is level??? Where I plan to store the boat has a slight slant, but I could try to build up one side in order to get it close to level.

                  Thanks.

It may just be me, but I dont like to let water stand in the bilge. A little slant may let any water settle in the corner of the bilge instead of draining.

Anyone have a picture of the intake hose at the transmission cooler? Or the v-driver cooler? I need to winterize my boat tomorrow, supposed to get down to 23 degrees over the weekend and I don't think my uninsulated storage unit is going to keep it above freezing.

I drained the 2 petcocks and pulled the hoses off of the impellar so that leaves the knock sensor(s)? and or plug to pull. Kind of weird that they don't have petcocks for the actual block, Mercruiser does...

I'd take some for you but i'm not home. Go to "downloads" at the top of the page and open the pdf for the V-drive. It shows the drain plug location. For the trans cooler, mine is located just below the oil filter in-line of the fresh water hose. it is a metal cylinder with 2 small oil hosed running from it to the trans. Just loosen one of the hose clamps for the water hose and pull it off.

Should be able reach everything through the access cover (table mount if you have it) but you need 2 elbows

Can you still remove the rear bench like I can on my 21v?
