I have a 2001 22V with a 355 Scorpion. How often should the impellar be changed? I use this boat every other weekend for recreational coverage, May thru Oct, and keep it in dry storage when not in use.

Some change the impellar yearly and others will change it every two years. I even think someone mentioned after 200 hours somewhere on this site or on WW. IMO, I would change it every year to be on the safe side and do it yourself. I think the impellar is around $35 (someone correctly if this is wrong) but whatever the price is, it still beats the chances of the engine overheating.

I'm w/ you. We change our impellar every year before we take it out in the spring. A few years after we got our '95 Tige, which was our first boat, we had it go out on us launching and it was a bummer b/c we didn't get to ride for about a week while the dealer had it. I would change it every year just to be safe. If it is $35 like da.bell stated then that is a pretty cheap price to almost gaurantee that it won't go out on you all summer! If you ain't falling.. you ain't trying hard enough..

On my first boat, I was a novice to boating at the time, the impeller was almost to the point it was bad when I bought the boat. It lasted a month or so, before I almost toasted the engine... black smoke coming from the engine box... pretty scary.
They are about $35, and well worth changing it every year.... that reminds me, I should change mine.

I'll chime in here and agree with the general consensus...a yearly change, especially if you winterize your boat, is cheap insurance against an impeller demolition while out on the water. $35-$70 depending on who and where...Get it done with the winterization. I did mine last year, and apparently the original owner never bothered to change it. After 130+ hours, the vanes were practically non-existent. Scary thing was I had just used the boat 2 days before the service...and I was out alone.
MikeAmbivalent? Yes. Or Not.
