You won't hrt anything using a multi-vis. In fact a multi-vis like 25W-40 is probably easier on engine parts on startup than a straight 40W. The 25W-40 acts like a 40 once it is heated up.

It is a 25 wieght oil, that at a given temperature, will not thin more than a 40W at the same temperature.

Who uses their boat anyway when it's cold?

typerider, my manual 03 manual for an 05 boat says specifically not to use multi viscosity and then says its o.k. to use 20-50.

          Which oil?

          25-40 or 25-50?

I live in NY so the evenings can be quite cool. Plus I keep the boat on the lift till October 1st usually.

Also, anyone know the quantity to fill with a filter replacement?

          05 with the Vortech 5800 engine. 5.7 350 cid.

My Marine Power manual say's 7qt with an Aluminum Pan? 5 qts with a sheet metal Pan? and a different value..9qts for the "Jetpac Pan?

          And it say's s SAE 40?

          WOW...

          TIA, Paul

              Yep, it sure is..

I ended up going to my local Marina..whom I like very much. I purchased 25-40 (even though Marine said 15-40) and a new filter and wrench that fits the filter.

I have a steel pan, so 5 qts it is...I used a magnet to verify this.

              Thanks.

Who ever put the filter on should be shot!!!!

I've got THREE wrenches and not ONE of them will budge the filter...This wrong! Plain WRONG!

There is one that will....it is awesome for those that someone gorilla'd on there. Autozone has these and they work good for that. Has long handles, adn teeth that grab real good.

                    Thanks..

I got it with brute force and a wrench (Metal one..plastic just slips) that fits a socket...What a pain. Your tool looks to long for me to get a good turn. My filters on the bottom ..I'll have to get that moved to the top like I had on my past three ski boats.

OK Done..Time for a ride and a Heinken

                      No leaks..no noises .

I did notice though that the Oil pressure goes a bit above 60 at full throttle? Maybe as high as 70-73??

Could this be due to the new oil and the 25-40 Viscocity? She ran at 60 tops last year.

Idle has always been at 40psi and still is? Manual says 10-30 psi at idle?
