I think I have my manuals around? We store our bout somewhere else.

It will take me a few days till I can get back to you but I will check it out and let you know. If you don't get another reply till then.

My gut says 5qts with short filter (5.5 w/long)

Heres is a safe way to not overfill when you change oil/filter: Note where oil level is on dipstick (should be in "safe" zone. Next, drain, suck, extract used oil into graduated container. Fill engine with same amount as removed and add 1/2 qt for filter or 1qt w/long.

Level should be close to where it was when you started.

You mentioned Graduated container, it took me right back to my Chemistry major days. Good times.

Good tip though, I've never thought of going that route.

I just talked to my dealer, he knew exactly how much we needed for our boat.

I've found that with remote oil filter line you have a hard time getting the specified capacity in without overfilling. My Merc 350 specifies 6 quarts with filter but if you put more than 4.5 it will overfill. My guess is the remote lines aren't draining into pan.

You're probably right. Next time see how much you drain out.

On the remote line, I just let it drain for a few days and has always come all the way out. Didn't feel like buying a pump
