Rock Chips on Trailer and Boat

I have a 20V with a fold away tounge and tandem wheels. I live in Canada with lots of gravel on the roads and a heavy foot.

I need some sort of protection for the boat and trailer however I pull it with a BMW X5 and the quad exaust comes straight out of the bumper even with the reciever.

So anything mounted on the reciever and is close to the exaust will melt and you can't mount any thing on the hitch (like the Bow Buddy) because it has to swivel in the garage.

Tape looks poor and does not protect the boat.

    Any thoughts?

3M as well as other companies make a clear film that others have used on the transom of their boats to protect from wakeboard dings. I tried to find the previous thread on the subject, but can't find it.

I've been to Canada on those gravel logging roads. They're nasty. I know they make bow covers that look like a boat cover, except that they cover the underside of your bow fairly far back. I think they just strap on. I would imagine you could get something like that made for your boat at a local canvas shop. I'd make sure that if you do this that there's some sort of soft backing on it to protect the gelcoat from getting scratched.

I have a set of enkay mud flaps they are totally adjustable. They mount to your receiver. I have a set for my 6" lifted silverado that when rotated back and down work great and then rotated back all the way up to use behind a tahoe. On your beamer you will probably have to trim some of the rubber flab before mounting it on the bars that hold it to the receiver. I have loved these and now two of my other boating buddies have them as well. They are around $250 a little pricey, but how much is gelcoat repair? Here is the site, I picked mine up from a local 4 wheeler shop. These when rotated back should be far enough away from the exhaust, it's probably 8" from the mount point.

I have removable mud flaps for my f250. I run them right above the ground and they stop everything. They may not look the greatest on your x5, but you can take them off when not towing, and not worry about it.

              Here is the link.

there are not what I have, but you get the idea

Those are awesome. They are more than what I want to pay, but are much more adjustable for mulitple applications. Thanks for the link!

Thats what I thought until you start looking at prices for repowdercoating trailer and gelcoat repairs. I also pull several other trailers and justify the extra protection costs for those.

I actually all ready ordered one. It is the best design that I have seen out there. For nearly the same price camping world had one you had to cut and adjust a bunch to make it work. Thanks for the info, good stuff
