    Trans light and alarm

    I’ve got a 2000 2100v While surfing the other day, the alarm started buzzing and I looked down and the trans light was on. I shut it down and checked the transmission fluid and it was about 1/2 qt low. Added 1/2 qt of ATF and i cranked it and ran it back with no problems. Would a 1/2 qt low cause the light and alarm to go off?

    The red light is for the v-drive not the transmission.

      Ok, it says trans next to it. The V drive oil was fine. What does the light indicate. Low fluid? Low pressure? Over heating?

        It's a pressure switch. Once RPM rises, the switch should go off. Check the boat without listing and see if the light goes off when you take off. If not, could be low oil (i know you said it was good) or the sensor is bad or the wire is touching a ground somewhere.

          But it is the V drive and not Transmission? Because Transmission was 1/2 qt low and once I put in fluid, it was fine.

            Yes, Only alarm that's trans related on your year Merc should be trans temp up by the trans cooler IIRC. Light is for V drive. If you cut the throttle and came to neutral when the alarm went off that's why you noticed the light. As stated above the V-drive has to be turning(boat in gear fwd or rev at around 1000-1200 RPMS to get the pressure switch to close). The alarm was most likely something else engine ECM related. Next time out watch red light after putting boat in gear and throttling up. It should go out. You can also do it on a fake-a-lake BRIEFLY and you need to lube the cutlass/strut bearing first.

              I was pulling a surfer when the alarm sounded. When I looked down, the red light was on. I then shut the boat down immediately. I’m trying to figure out what caused the alarm. Checked all fluids and trans was a little low. Add some and the alarm quit and ran the boat back to you he dock with no issues.
