Straight white vinegar no good?
I have had some luck with marine formula even though its intended purpose is breaking down 3m 5200. It works really awesome for vertain things. Never dull might be worth a look. Mothers is the go to. Unless you are machine polishing it, a simple aluminum polish with light pressure wont change the finish.Germaine Marine

update, i had a few small samples to try. I had a sample of Flitz metal polish, and it did nothing. I also had some IOSSO metal polish and it actually seemed to be working much better, problem is the sample was soo small i couldnt do much. So i ordered a tube of it, and hopefully that will work. I havent tried straight white vinegar yet, you think that could clean it? I did try a all purpose cleaner, and that was a no go also.

For cleaning really bad hard water spots on glass, I have had great luck with the cream formula of Barkeeper's Friend. You can get it at Wal-Mart in the kitchen cleaners. I am not sure about using it on aluminum though. May want to check the bottle first. It cut through spots that vinegar wouldn't touch.
