Gel Coat Repair --> Replace your bunk boards!

This is my 3rd season with our 96 Tige Pre2100wt. I neglected my bunk boards even after noticing some of the wood rotting. The gravity of the problem never struck me. Eventually the steel bracket protruded through and left some gnarly gashes in my hull.

It was mistake from a lack of experience. I didn't want to shell out money for a professional repair so I watched some tutorials from Boatworks Today.

    Here's some of the work

Sanding with 60 grit then 150 and cleaning with acetone.

White gel Coat 4oz mixed with MEK catalyst 1.25cc. 3 coats applied with sanding and cleaning in between.

Sprayed PVA after each Coat and let it sit for a night. I just finished final sanding and wet sanding. Compounding will follow while I'm doing the rest of the boat.

I've had her out of the water twice and the repairs seem to be holding up very well. I believe my supplies cost me around 100-150 dollars.

First, what would this have cost in a shop?

I'm also wondering if any of you salty vets would recommend something I might have missed?

    Thanks!

I forgot to include trailer photographs before and after I replaced the bunks. Stainless hardware. Treated lumber. Good carpet. 3M Sealant between brackets and bunks.

    Thanks again.

Man i had a board come off last saturday night! My scratches are not near as bad as yours. I actually checked all the other boards on the trailer and they were loose also.

      Good luck on the repairs.

Glad to hear you came away clean for the most part! You're boat is a 2016 and all your boards were loose?

Finished repairs......the fish might critique them when I'm on the water but that's about it. Cheers
