Same advice as given to everyone who asks this same question: Call Tige and give them your hull ID number (on the transom). They'll tell you the exact cable used to build your boat. Then, buy the upgraded version that has better seals on it and you should be set for years, maybe forever.

Or Take off the rack under the steering wheel. Follow the cable and you will see the number. Get the newer upgraded version.

I have emailed Harvey Smith at Tige (hsmith@tige.com) with my boat year and model and he gave me the correct steering cable replacement. I actually ordered the cable through Walmart.com and installed it this weekend. Took about 1 1/2 hours but most of that was reaching under the rear seat to detach the old cable from the rudder and cable guide. I couldn't believe the difference in steering. Easily two finger steering now versus two hands before. I followed the guide posted here: http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...ng-cable/page3 . Here are the steps I followed:

          1. Detach the 20 mm nut holding the cable guide to the hull.
          2. Detach the cable from the rudder (with steering wheel fully to the left) using 9/16 and 1/2 ratchets.
          3. Pulled cable out of compartment, stepped on cable guide and used channel locks to loosen nut holding it in.
          4. Pulled cable out of guide and set the guide aside.
          5. Removed the two screws holding the carpeted cable cover under the helm that attaches to the footboard.
          6. Removed 4 bolts holding the rack/cable to the steering column using 7/16 ratchet.
          7. Tied rope to the end of the old cable and then pulled it from the helm until it came free. Took rope off and tied it to the end of the new steering cable and began feeding it back into the helm. I had my 11 year old pulling the rope from the stern.
          - The only problem I ran into was the large nut on the end didn't want to go under the engine so I had to run the cable a bit high until I cleared the obstacle, then dropped the cable back down and slid it under the engine mount.
          8. Ran the new cable through the guide and reattached the guide to the hull.
          9. Attached the end of the cable to the rudder. Placed the rudder in the neutral position by pushing it by hand.
          10. Aligned the steering wheel so it was centered and placed the new cable's rack and tightened the 4 bolts.
          11. Put the cable cover back on the footboard and went for a test drive.

Some people recommend cutting the old cable before the large nut to ease the removal. I would have done this but didn't have bolt cutters. If you have them, use them and you'll save a few minutes.

          Hope that helps....good luck!

          Mike
