I had to change out both tires on one side because I'd gotten a flat and wanted the tires to match. As I went to take off the 2nd tire, I was only able to get 2 of them off. The two I'd gotten off were cross-threaded on the way off and a third lug nut would just spin. Not a good start. I had to have all the studs replaced. The guys that worked on it had to remove the hub and use a torch to get the stuck lug nut out of the hub.
So, I ended up with 3 stripped studs. What caused the problem was that the nut inside the hub had been 1 or 2 turns too loose and it was causing the wheel to wobble a bit. This added stress to the studs and they eventually got stripped. This must have happened the last time I had the bearings repacked.
So, you might want to jack up your wheels once a season to make sure your wheels aren't loose on the hub.
It was a hassle getting it fixed on a Sunday, but I'm glad I didn't have a flat on that tire or I'd have never been able to limp to the shop that fixed it. Pulling a hub apart sure is a messy job
