    Oil change in my 22v

    Hello all,

I have a quesiton about changing the oil in my 22v.
On top of the motor there is a black hose that I snaked thru the drain hole then drained the oil that way.
The problem is that it took like 4 hrs to for it to drain. (It came out in a slow steady streem vs a good flow like I expected.)

Do I need to hook a pump to that thing at all?
    Or is this normal?
THis is the first time Im changing it my self.
Everytime I bring it to the dealer they seem to break something else so I figure Id just do it myself.

    Thanks

That is normal. It will flow faster if you warm it up before you start to drain it. There are pumps made for sucking it out. I just make sure draining the oil is the first thing I do. Then go through the rest of the engine, while the oil is draining. Then go get some food, and take a nap. Basically, it takes a long time, as you now know.

I found a previous thread with some pump ideas.

When you come off the lake for the weekend, run the hose and let it drain until Monday, Tuesday or when ever. That way all the oil is out and the filter will be cool to the touch, no heat from the engine to get you hot while you finish the job.

I had the same problem so I bought one of those vacuum pumps (non-electric type) and it works a lot faster (still takes about an hour), but you have to get the oil hot first by warming up the engine.
