Oil Level

Question Guys, Checking my boat oil level yesterday and noticed that when the boats engine is off the oil level is in the normal operating level. But when I started it and check the oil the oil didn’t even read on the dip stick. I know that the engine is going to pull oil out of the oil pan, but does it pull so much up that it won’t read on the dip stick?

You should only check the oil with the "engine off"!

With the engine running the oil it is being pumped out of the pan and circulated through the engine to lubricate internal moving parts.
