    engine manufacturer certification for maintenance?

How important do you think it is that the mechanic/shop that regularly works on your marine engine be "certified" by the engine manufacturer?

I dont think its that important that the person be certified by the engine manufacturer , whats important for you to check on, is make any facility that your new to, show you their shop manuals pertaining to your product and what ever access they have to pertinent service info, any good mechanic will be glad to show you their library.
We have a wall that covers over 100ft of shop manuals as well as on line available info and test equipment, and no lab top will have everything needed , so dont just go by that.
Get a tour of the facilty and judge by what you see as far as work processes.
    Hope this helps.

Nice looking boat Duncan. I Think the mechanics experience and ability to obtain the proper information is very important. Also their understanding of the operating systems on a boat are important.A PCM technician for example that mostly worked on Nautiques may or may not have trouble with your Tige. All boats are a little different. The mechanics ability to adapt to the system depends on their understanding of that system. There are no schematics for boats like there are for cars.So the mechanic has to understand the system ,find the component, test it and repair as necessary. You should be able to ask other boat owners and find out which mechanic fixes it right the first time.Good Luck.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.
