Stripped tower bolts

Brought home my new 24V and had to colapse the tower to get it into the garage. As I unscrewed the tower bolts, one of them seemed to have a soft wire wrapped around the threads. Upon looking into the tower hole, most of the threads where missing. I'm thinking whom ever put the tower together upon delivery, stripped the threads, then wrapped some kind of soft metal around the bolt threads to snug it in.
Anyways, has anyone ever have this problem, or can suggest a fix?
If I knew what kind of metal the tower is made out of, that would help as well.

The "soft wire" is the missing threads from the hole. Someone cross-threaded the bolt.

Take it back to the dealer.

I think your best bet for a solid repair would be to replace the bolt with a slightly larger one and retap the hole to match, make sure the new bolt is stainless.

I agree with RZMike, take it back to the dealer to get it repaired under warranty.

I sure would Lee, especially knowing that the tower comes unassembled from the factory. So that means someone at the dealership stripped the bolt in the first place!

Speaking of which, I have a few warranty items coming up I need to have addressed by my dealer!

Tell your dealer you plan on lowering the tower on a regular basis, The damaged part must be repaired correctly or better yet replaced for it to last.

Also the tower is most likley aluminum.

Sorry to hear about the problem with the tower. It sounds like the heil coil came out and can be corrected by the dealership. Please contact the dealer so they can get this corrected and you back on the lake. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Is it standard to have a heil coil in the tower hole?

the heli coil is a stainless steel threaded insert. the aluminum tower will not hold up to the stainless steel stud. it is not a matter of if, its when the threads will pull out.
if the heli coil is not installed correctly then you will have this problem happen. anti seize is also an option.

Stripped tower threads

One of my threads showed some signs of "chattering" early on. I give the bolts a shot of "never sieze" about 3 times a year and have never had a problem since in 4 years, with raising and lowering the tower 2 times a week during the summer.
