    Oil weight?

This sounds like a stupid question to ask. I need to know what weight oil I need for a 22v tige 2001. I don't have the owners manual and I don't know where else to look. Last year I had to call tige personaly to get it and I was dumb enough to write it and and forget where I put it.

Does 15W40 Penzoil marine oil sound right?

They normally recommend 25w40 but some dealers are using 5w30 and others use 15w40 so it's really all over the board. I just searched the site today for the oil filter to use on mine and was reading through all of the various weights of oil people are using and there really wasn't a standard so I just bought a 5 quart jug of Valvoline 10w40 from Wally World and a Fram PH5 filter today.

Mercruiser 25w40 is anywhere from $21 for a gallon jug to over $30 depending on where you get it and the Valvoline was $13 for 5 quarts.

I'm assuming you have a merc. And in the service manual it recommends a 25w40 which is kind of tough to find. They also recommend either a 20w40 or 20w50, I went with the 20w50.

Make sure you get marine grade oil.

Try Mercruiser's site. Just scroll down their page a little ways.

From what I've read I should be using SAE 40 in my engine.

From Mercruiser's chart, straight weight is the least recommended.

To help obtain optimum engine performance and to provide maximum protection, we strongly recommend the use of the following oils listed in the order of recommendation:

MerCruiser / Quicksilver Synthetic Blend, NMMA FC-W rated, 4 cycle oil.
MerCruiser / Quicksilver 25W40 NMMA FC-W rated oil.
                A NMMA FC-W rated oil.
                MerCruiser / Quicksilver 4-cycle 25W40, non FC-W rated oil.
A good grade straight weight detergent automotive oil per the operating chart below.
