Over the years the wood in the my rear hatch became so rotten that I could no longer oversize the wood hinge screws. I didn't want to purchase new hatches because its a pain working with the dealer + I did not want to purchase hatches that would eventually develop the same problem + I wanted to use same new vinyl I had been replacing the old with.
Working with my upholstery guy we came up with this solution. Now the hinge srew locations are machine threads w/ loc-tite sealant using beefy stainless machine screws. Been trouble free for 2 +years.
It wasn't easy , it wasn't real cheap but it sure worked good.
