Carla, a couple posts in here mention a 21-ft cable for 24Ve. FWIW, my RZ4 used a 21-footer, too.

I used a 21 in my 24V....one in there was an 18ft though.

Anyone used one of these when installing the new cable? I read about it in a thread on WW. Looks like an extra seal with a zero fitting to add a little grease and keep water and contaminants out of the cable.

This is a fantastic thread, and it gave me the confidence to take on this project on my 2001 23V.
Last night, I installed the Teleflex TFXtreme Rack Cable 18' SSC15418 which I got from First Choice Marine for $152 shipped (using a $5 off coupon code).
The whole process took me about 4 hours, which included the half hour that I spent cutting off the brand new 1-1/8" wrench that I bought for this job as well as the extensive clean-up of the boat after I made such a mess of it with the overall project.
The tips on cutting off the wrench, cutting the old cable for removal, and unscrewing the gas tank to block it up slightly to remove the old cable were life-savers. Even with the cutting of the old cable, there was something preventing it from being pulled out, so I needed to boost up the gas tank just a tiny bit in order to relieve the bind that was holding the old cable.
I had to use a sawzall to cut the old cable, as my plumbing pipe cut-off tool was not going to get through that multi-strand beast.
I routed the new cable over the gas tank, so it will hopefully last for a good while.
Anyway, thanks to all contributors! I went from needing two arms to turn the wheel to two fingers......that is on the trailer only; I won't get to test it on the water until the weekend.

I ordered a 19' cable for my boat but when I pulled out the old one it is a 21'. It's routed forward of the kick wall under the helm which is a little longer run than most have posted before. I guess 2009s were started to route this way. I couldn't find the part number on the cable until I pulled it out. Luckily I didn't cut the old cable and put it back in the boat so I'm not stranded with no boat this weekend.

I am replacing my cable and ordered the standard SSC13418 after emailing tige customer service about what the recommended part would be for my boat. It sounds like I might should have ordered the upgraded SSC15418. Would you guys recommend using the one I have ordered, or would you return it and order the upgraded cable? I have a 2003 21i, and this is the first time I have had to replace it.

I got the upgraded cable and couldn't be more happy with it. 3 years later and it still turns like it is brand new.

New extreme cable is installed, took me less than an hour thanks to this thread. My 2009 RZ2 had a 21' cable installed and the new 21' cable fit perfect. Now I can steer with my pinky finger, feels like a new boat. And the extreme cable is a little easier to fish through the floor, its a bit more flexible than the standard cable from the factory. I think my cable corroded early because it was a leftover model, it's a 2009 but I bought it in 2010 with 1.2 hours on it, so it sat at the dealer for a while. Anyway, 2009 RZ2 = 21' cable.

Just changed mine this weekend, t directions were spot on except having too remove t bolt arm that connects to t tiler arm, before pulling t cable thru t sleeve. That step was brutal but necessary. My boat was new when i bought it in 2010, although its an 08. i wonder why t cable would go bad just sitting in t showroom?? Figured using it would wear it out quicker than non use.
hopefully dont have to change this again for a long, long time!

I tried running mine on top of the gas tank, but I was unable to make the turn through the floor. I do not want to leave it below the gas tank in the water. I did this job 3 years ago and the cable is getting tight already. So this time I want to make sure it lasts longer than three years. Any suggestions?

What boat do you have? Which cable did you buy?

06 22ve, don't remember the length. The dealership sent me the cable after I gave them my vin. I have not pulled the old one out just pulled the boat out to change the oil and discovered my steering problem.

I just did mine yesterday and fed the cable out towards the steering wheel, once the cable got close to the going under the floor board I tied a rope to the end of it and used a stick to push it past the front of the fuel tank which let the stern end of the cable drop down and give the angle needed to get it out the hole under the helm (hope that makes sense). Tied the rope onto the new cable and pulled it back through all in all it went smooth.

I attempted to start this project today on my 2004 22V, but I'm fearing I could be getting in over my head here.

                              1. I started loosening the 1/2" nut on the swivel arm, but it was extremely difficult to reach back there and I stopped before going in too deep. I was going in from the port side because there's more room and there's not even enough room for another person to help from the starboard side due to the additional hardware in the way. So my question is...I should be able to get the nut off, but then when I'm all done, how am I supposed to line up the cable with the swivel arm and insert the bolt, with one hand and not being able to see it?

                              2. Regarding the 1 1/8 nut that needs to be removed, I had trouble locating, but it seems to be located about a foot from the back of the boat, about at the back of the motor? If so, how do I access it, as I can barely see it through the cracks due to all the rubber tubes as well as metal tubes in the way?

Any advice on completing this project? If you think it's something I may want to have taken in and done, how much labor do you think it would take/cost? Thanks for your help!

                                Hi Travis,
I'm the proud owner of a sweet 2007 Tige 20V which needs a new teleflex steering cable as well. Haven't taken the old one out yet, so haven't been able to spot any part numbers or lengths.
Are you sure the teleflex SSC15418 (18' long) was what you used???? It wasn't too long??? I did rough tape measure including the curve at helm to be slightly over 16ft. hmmmm?????
I was hoping to use the boat right up until I get my new cable ...perhaps not possible...would love some confirmation on length so I can order before I pull the old one.
Any help would be much appreciated!
                                Jim
                                Thanks
