Change your Marine Power (Jabsco) Impeller

    Changed the oil, filter and impeller on my 2006 22Ve' earlier today. Oil and filter were easy enough (Thanks to all for the part #'s). Went with SAE 40 and a Fram PH5 filter.

    As far as the impeller goes, worked it for one hour + and finally got it out. Still in new condition. Man, not much room behind the engine with that activity center. In any event, finally got the old one out, new one went in easily. Just bought a Jabsco Impeller Removal Tool from www.defender.com ~ $48 shipped to CA. Just like everyone else, the housing bolts weren't all that tight; assume Tige' didn't want to crush the gasket. One question though....my cover only had the gasket, but the new impeller came with a rubber o-ring too. Lee - what do I do with this?

      Mine uses the o-ring and not the gasket. I had to use the old o-ring since they did not include one.

        They just put it in for other applications.

        I asked the same question yesterday.


        Maybe we could do a group buy on impeller pullers.

          One other thing to think about, make sure the inside of the impeller housing is still smooth. I've replaced mine a few times and the last time I did it the impeller got chewed up in about an hour by some rough ridges inside the housing. Had to replace the whole pump housing.

            It is a multi fit item, use the o-ring for a bracelet.

                  How important is it to find ALL the teeth? And where would one look for them? I feel a few behind the impeller and I removed the bottom hose, but I'll need to remove them once I remove the old damaged impeller.

                    You need to remove all the broken parts. You can remove the hose from the top of the engine and back flush it with a water hose to get most out.

                      I received my impeller(s) and the removal tool yesterday. I'm going in tomorrow for the procedure to R&R the damaged impeller.

                      The impeller came with the following:

                      Impeller
                      Oring
                      gasket
                      tube of glycerine

                      The instruction state, DON NOT USE PETROLIUM-BASED lubricants!

                      A few questions...it sez to "make sure that the pump sucks water up within 30 seconds" How does one verify this? I would have to imagine the cover is placed back on before start-up, so I'm not sure other than to eye the temp guage to make sure it does not head into the danger zone?

                      The diagram shows all the items with the exception of the Oring. Where does the Oring go? Have not looked as yet, maybe its obvious once I do?

                      The directions say to lubricate the LIP seal with glycerine (DO NOT LUBRICATE THE MECHANICAL SEAL)? What is the lip seal?

                      Say's to lubricate the Oring/gasket with glycerine? The GASKET? There is no gasket adhesive in the package.

                        OK, its done and she's running just fine

                        I could not use the BRAND NEW Jabsco removal tool because my ski pole is right there and in the way...Had I been able to, it would have been a 5 minute job instead of 20!


                        So...FOR SALE one Jabsco 50070-0200 65mm-118mm puller tool....I paid $81.00 for it to my door.

                        If anyone is interested, I'll ship it out to your door for $60.00OBO (CONTUS)

                        Oh, and I ended up not using the O'ring...none was there prior and I could see no place of value for it?

                            I tried to order one or these impellers from my local West Marine, but the girl didn't seem to sure on the part numbers so I didn't do it. Does it matter if I buy the Jabsco brand, Johnson, or any other?

                              I was able to grab the old impeller with pliers to pull it out on my V-drive. It is really hard to reach and get any kind of pull so pliers were necessary for mine.

                                Stainless Steel Pump Housing

                                Admins, feel free to move/delete not trying to HiJack.

                                Found my plastic housing cracked by finding a boatload of water My guess is that a piece of impeller that I missed when I replaced the last one jammed in and caused to much pressure.

                                Found a replacement Stainless Steel housing, http://www.hardin-marine.com/detail~ID~2335.aspx

                                I have not seen anyone talk about them as I read the forums, wonder if anyone has ever tried one? I have one on order, Ill let you know how it does.
