I got a ding, but I got another new prop sitting around.

Do I need a prop puller? Or just remove the cotter and nut?

Is there a torque spec for the nut upon installation?

Yes on the prop puller

Probably is a torque spec but good and snug will do.

You might get lucky and have the prop come off without a puller. You can also try and hit the shaft twoard the boat with a rubber mallet (don't damage the threads) and if it isn't tight, it might come off. If neither of those works, you will need a harmonic puller or a clamp style.

If you have an 05 and have never removed the prop, you will need the puller and then you will need a hammer, probably a bigger one would be nice. I had to remove my prop from the factory and nearly had a hernia getting it off. That was just 9 months after I bought it.

I resorted to getting a propane torch, hoping that would help. I laid under the boat, torch next to me, and decided to give it one more hit and it came off. So...threatening the prop with a torch also seems to be effective.
