One thing to add. Be careful with the level. The strings are a great guide, but you will be pissed off if you use the level, but your boat wasn't completely on level ground. Only use the level if your boat is also on very level ground.

When I did mine, I got the level out, and realized the above, and I didn't use it at all. I used the eye bolts as my guide.

I marked my spots and then put the bar up and noticed that something was wrong. Having the 36 inch bar does show problems if there were any.

Yeah, I can see how that long bar would def show you if it was cockeyed.

Nice write up! Luckily, mine came with the grab bar.

Went out on the boat yesterday after work and the bar worked great. Just have to remember that the bar is there now. I have already learned how to get onto the swim platform without it for the past year but now when I have friends on the boat, they have something to grab.

So, it works like a champ and supports my 193 lbs body weight so far.

My favorite part, we went out also, and I didn't say anything to my kids. We got to the lake around 4:30pm and it was still lik 95º. So we stopped and I told everyone to take 15 mins to swim before boarding. So they all started jumping in and getting out and jumping in. They all were using the handle to help get in, even my 2 yr old grabbed it. It should be standard on every boat. I can't imagine not wanting a handle.

I could be wrong, but I think on my year it was a standard option. I could live without the grab bar as well, I use the "Shamu" move by pulling myself up on the swim deck on my stomache and then stand up and get in. Another benefit of wakesurfing is that my swimdeck on the weighted side is 8 inches under water. Even "Alvie" could get in my boat.

Here's Moki now with his patented "Shamu" technique

Sorry, dude, I put this one together a while back and had to laugh at your description.

My boat came with the grab handle standard.

Well, I wish my boat had one standard. It was an option that the dealer didn't think was necessary. But, it was fun and now it is finished. It's now a standard option on my boat as well.

p.s. Shamu must have been on a diet in that pic...... he/she looks a little under weight.... Ops, maybe that was Shamu Jr.... he he he

I agree. And for me, I actually like the handle low like I did it, vs the way the factory puts on higher. It seems to me, that people who need a handle, need it low. At least my kids seem to find it easier this way. The fact the handles were so cheap was nice.

I agree. The entire project was under $50 if you already have all the tools. In regards to the handle being lower, I can't disagree with you. I went out of my way to use it last night but found out that I am already 1/3 the way up the swim platform before I could even reach it. However, I am only 5'8" so I am not the tallest person around either. But, it worked and now I have to think about my next DIY project....

I still think that this is the better option than a grab handle:
