Prop shaft supposed to be offset?

Looking at the bottom of my boat (98 2200V) I noticed that the prop shaft appeared to be offset to the left (passenger side) a little. When you look at it from the back, it does not go straight into the center of the hole in the bottom of the boat. Rather, it looks like it is pushed left and is almost touching. Are all shafts like that or is she bent?

Runs pretty well with minimal vibration otherwise

No, it should be straight. Your strut is probably bent and maybe your shaft too. Did you hit anything?

That's what I figured. Can the support be straightened or do I need a new one?

Not sure, they've replaced the two times mine got bent. The thing is you really want it aligned well.

About how much did it run you to get he prop shaft supports swapped out? I will probably do it this week and want to know how much I should be expecting

I would NEVER go against what dogbert says, he is much smart then I, but if you are looking at your shaft and your rudder mine are off also. I posted this last year and I was told it was normal to make the shaft removal easier. I called Tige Customer service.

I suggested the shaft might be bent because he also noticed some vibration. I have that issue now on my boat and I know I'm headed for a shaft replacement (strut already replaced). Initially the dealer told me the shaft was not bent, but they now admit to missing it.

After I picked up my boat and realized it pulled pretty good when I let go of the wheel. I don't have any vibrations though. I took a look at this as well and saw that it was offset, 1995 SLM Comp. This is what I was told here and it makes very good sense to me...

...A lot of older tournament ski boats have was called a "loaded rudder". This forces the driver to apply constant pressure to the wheel thus keeping the steering cable taught at all times. So when the skier pulls the boat there is no slack in the steering cable, and it can easily and smoothly be compensated for.

That's true, but if you look, your shaft is lined up with the tracking fins. I'd be curious to see Bake5's picture from the same angle.

I think I need to check my alignment. I have a couple of nicks in my prop, will that cause vibration? I don't feel much but every once and awhile when I am going slow.

I looked at my SLM Comp tonight and saw the same thing. The propshaft is a little bit to the left of the rudder post. I have no vibrations. I bet the offset is a provision, like someone said, for shaft removal.

Mine is like this also. I posted the link earlier w/ pictures, but I called Tige and they told me it is like that so you can remove the shaft easily. It was suppose to be like that. I have cavitation sometimes because I have knicks in my prop they told me.

How do you know that you are having cavitation? Does it make any wierd sounds or just a little vibe?
