Hard the shift transmission into gear

You really have to jerk the throttle handle to put it into gear
would that be the transmission cable?
We have a 2001 21i
Anyone have a after market part # ?
How easy is it to replace if this is the problem?

First unhook it from the trans lever and see if its still stiff , if it is then and this part is a little more difficult unhook the cable from the shifter and see if the handle is stiff , at that point you will know which is the problem.
