Put the boat in to pull a few kids on Friday, and my depth finder read 997 feet most of the day, but would give correct depth readings on occasion. Anyone ever had this problem,or know of a solution? '07 22Ve'
Check the transducer in the bilge and make sure it is still glued down. They will sometimes pop loose for no apparent reason. I have had to reglue the transducer on both my Tige and bass boat over the years. Very simple, just rough up the area and clean it good, and use two part epoxy.
Did the ballast scoop ever get moved? Also make side the hull is clean under the transducer. Anything that causes air bubbles across the area will give you that kind of reading.

I'm debating on putting a depth finder in. Are the "puck" style as accurate as the thru-hull models. Obviously I don't want to put a hole in my hull, so the puck would be preffered if they are as good.
I don't wanna read 997 all day though

Jason, I've got some friends who have had good luck with the puck style, and not drilling a hole through the hull...but our hulls are so thick, I don't know if that will have a detrimental effect or not.

OK guys, the bottom of the boat was spotless, no ballast intake to worry about...is the transducer a part of the speedometer/speed set pickup? Or is it a separate item inside the hull?
It's all part of the same pickup on the transom where the paddle wheel is. It does seem like there is air getting caught on it somehow from my previous experience, it could also be loose and be kicking up. That seems like it would be interfering with your speed and speedset then. Had mine go to 0 a few times, but it was always sea grass getting caught around it from going through a big drift of it.
Hey guys. This is tied to an old post, but thought I would research before asking questions.
I have a Hummingbird depth finder on my 99 2100i. The depth this season has read 8.something feet every time, all the time.
The puck in in-place. Is this likely a transducer failure? If so, can you buy just the transducer, or am I stuck buying the whole package?

Might wanna call humminbird tech support to make sure its a transducer problem, you should be able to get just a replacement transducer, here is a link to one, just make sure its compatible with whatever package model you have
How can I test my depth finder? Mine gives off false readings and the alarm is alway's going off..
What kind of transducer do you have, hull mounte puck, thru-hull, or transom mounted?
For testing, you kinda gotta know the depth of the water you are in and see if it's correct. A good lake mape will give you the water dept @ full pond, so account for low water. next, most units have a keel-offset setting as well as a setting for the alarm, check those. If you have a hull mounted puck, make sure it's secure, if it's a transom mounted, make sure it's tight and not moving around as the boat is underway. If it's a thru-hull, make sure it's clean and there is nothing infront of it causing water turbulence.
