Wif of gas and black a$$

Wanting to know if any of you have had an experience like this. The past few weeks I have noticed a wif of gas odor as I throttle down to u turn and pick up my rider. As the water rushes the back of the boat it must be pushing it forward and I smell gas very briefly. No leak in engine bay, already checked. Well this past weekend we went to a competition at Gaston and I used the boat a lot. Well I began to notice the back of the boat had black soot all over it. Well now I know where the gas smell is coming from, must be running rich and causing both conditions. Funny thing is my fuel economy doesn't seem to be effected. And it is running fine, not loading up or bogging down. Just a wif of gas and a black a$$. Any ideas?

I have called my dealer and cant seem to begin a conversation about this and to follow up on many other things. Called Monday, was told someone would call me back. "No call," I had to call them back at the end of the day. Gave info to operations director and she says someone will call me back, all day today no call.
I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!

you may be smelling the vent on the side of your boat. As the boat stops, the gas keeps going, and pushes fumes out the vent.

my boat havs allways done this, may be not as bad as I don't seem to have any soot on the back except under the platform. The nature of the engine will be to rich when you close the throttle espically from a load (pulling a rider). Have you added more or less ballast,or changed grades of fuel? The only malfunction I can think of would be a biased coolant temp sensor makeing the engine computer add slightly more fuel as for you not to notice the decrease in econmy

About what I was thinking. I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this and found that something like that ended up being the cause.

What octane are you using? I had carbon deposits on the back of my boat until I started running 87... I guess the expensive stuff wasn't igniting completely.

87 all the time and from the same place, unless we are on the road.
