Loss of power to gauges

Hello all, my first post here. I recently purchased an '07 22Ve, and have put 45 hours on it so far. The other day while banging through some rough water, I lost power to my gauges for a moment, the engine slowed, heard the alarm, so I cut the throttle back, and everything went back to normal. This weekend, going through some rough chop, it happened several times more, shutting the engine down a couple of times. I checked all the connections to the gauges themselves, and from the batteries (EIDB), but they all seemed tight. I did NOT get in the engine compartment to check cables etc. because of the heat. Might anyone here have had the same or similar problem before?

Welcome to the site, who did you buy your Tige from, Gunnells? You are down in CP3's hood, I'm sorry about that J/K

First, I would check the connections on the ignition switch and then the kill switch by the throttle.

Post some pics if you get a chance.

I have an '07 22Ve and haven't experienced any problems with losing power.. Did you check the conncections to the, not sure what it's called, the EIDB switch box w/ the ON/OFF knob on it in the port side locker?

If all the connections are fine behind the gauges and at the batteries then I'm a little lost as to what it could be.

My '05 22v is at the shop right now and they are addressing the same issue. I'll let you know what they find. Last thurs there was a double beep and the tach died three times. Then when we were pulling up another rider the boat completely died. We turned the key off and then tried starting and the boat fired right up. It hasn't done it since. Kind of strange.

Chpthril, I did get the boat from Gunnells, they are extremely nice and knowledgeable. That's 2 places I did not think to check, thanks! I will get some pics up soon!

WB, thanks...checked there, but didn't have a set of tools, so not a good check. We'll get this knocked out soon...it ran flawlessly for a couple hours after the problem, so I think something just got jarred loose somewhere.

It didn't struggle at all, but just died. The gauges, engine, and alarm were dead in the water. The stereo and perfect pass were still on just fine as they both go through accessory power. I'll definitely let you-all know Dom finds.

Did you have PerfectPass? If so, is it powered by the common power on the gauges? When they installed PerfectPass on my boat, they did this and it caused all my gauges to reset or shut down. There's not enough power on the common power for the gauges to drive PerfectPass and the gauges. It needs its own power lead. Have Dom call the Ski Dock if he wants the details.

mntsmith does have PP, it is weired to the accessory switch (I think) . (I am his buddy and was somewhat responsible for convincing Mrs. mntsmith to buy it for his B-Day and helped in the install). Anyhow, I was driving the boat when it shut off and since it was acting goofy I was paying pretty close attention to the gauges and the PP never shut off. It definitely didn't enter a limp home mode, it just shut off, not a miss or stumble, no reduced power etc.. It didn't die like fuel starvation and has to be something electrical in a nature IMHO.

i would take a close look at the kill switch its not mtn issue as his is bypassed but i have had lots of issues with the kill switches. i would bypass the kill switch and see if your problem is gone. also go to the battery cables and give them all a good tug and make sure none of the ends are loose.

That's what I'm saying, low voltage to my gauges caused not only my PerfectPass to keep resetting, but it would also kill all the gauges and the engine. You need to make sure that PerfectPass has its own power source and it doesn't come from the ACC power lead on the ignition.

Mneal meant that the PP is wired to my dash switch that is the "Acc" switch. It has its own power essentially. KKO found a loose wire on my ignition switch that is the main power to all the gauges, that should have been the cause of the issue. It's hard to say something is "fixed" when it only did it once. The boat ran fine the remainder of thursday night and on sat. Hopefully that will be it

Finally got a chance to thoroughly check all wiring and connections, and discovered a loose connection on the ignition switch. Two minutes with a screwdriver and hopefully the problem is solved, will certainly let you all know.
