Take vinyl/carpet off Engine cowling

I want to reupholster my engine cowling on my 03 20i. How is the carpet/vinyl held on? Is the vinyl sewn to the carpet and then the carpet glued around the underside???

I have a much older boat and they used some magicholditneverletgo glue. Stuff was like concrete.
