I did a search and don't think this has been asked yet...I have an 04 22V. When the engine is turned off, the TAPS always returns to the highest setting. I'm sure this is on purpose but I'm not sure why. Does anyone know the reason for this? Is there a way to have the TAPS retain it's setting through a shut-down and start-up? From a durability standpoint I am interested in preventing unnecessary use of the actuator. Thanks for any info.

The taps system returns to the up/wakeboard position to recalibrate the gauge to the plate position. The gauge works off a timer in the taps computer. In theory if you did not turn off the system so it could recalibrate, the gauge and plate would be opposite of eachother.
For a while the taps was hooked up to a toggle switch on the dash. That would leave the plate in place when the engine is shut off. Problem is, it needs to be shut down periodically to recalibrate.
It is easy to change to a extra switch on the dash. I have done it on several boats.Greg Denton

TigeMD, thanks for the info.
1. In your opinion, does this action at shut-down have any effect on actuator life?
2. Would it be worthwhile to install a switch on the dash?
3. Does the switch leave battery power applied to the TAPS system while the engine is shut off?
I appreciate your feedback. We have seen the enemy, and the enemy is us.

If you leave the switch on, then yes, it will feed power to the taps computer.
I really don't know if the auto return has a big effect on the life of the ram. Tige has only been using these for little over a year. Of the 200 or so boats we have sold with them I have had less than 10 fail. Lenco offers a 2 year warranty (parts only) on the ram and computer.
If I owned a tige then I would move it to the dash.Greg Denton
