      Another TAPS Issue

I have an '01 21V and also have (and had) TAPS issues. Mine is a Bennett and last year had to replace the 20A fuse several times (under the dashboard). When TAPS wouldn't work at the start of this year (which was mid-May in Canada!) I added ATF so that the reservoir was 2/3 full (2" from base, 1" from top) and checked the fuse (no issue) and I still had problems. I know the plate isn't moving. There is no audible noise when depressing the taps switch on the throttle.

Reading through the thread, I will try "banging the plate with a mallet" and also check the wiring to the throttle. Anything else to try? What's the relay? Where would I find it on a 21V? Should I be able to hear the Bennett motor make noise when it's working (no audible noise as far as I am concerned). Does it work when the key is half-turned in the ignition or does it require that the motor be on?

Answers to these quations and any futher thoughts would be appreciated.

        .
Your TAPS is hydraulic, why are you using ATF instead of Hydraulic fluid?
(ATF is much thinner then Hydraulic Fluid)

Multiple listings on this site as well as the Bennett Manual specify ATF (any ATF - mixing brands is no problem).

ok good to know, I have the TAPS2 on my boat.
It uses a stepper motor. ( so no fluid )

I had the same problem. Put boat up for the winter, got it out and TAPS wouldn't work. Turns out I had the same wiring issue as one of the previous posts. The wires were worn where they come out of the trottle handle to the TAPS relay. There are three wires inside a white cover on my 2002 22i. The wires are very small and break easily especially where they make the bend out of the handle. I just took the handle off, spliced and taped. I will probably replace the wire ASAP but I was headed to the lake... you know how that goes.

Had problems with my Taps not working as well. Went thru couple fuses. Mile from the marina on Lake Havasu and the wiring from the relay to the handle fried. Smoking like a mo, we thought we were going down with boat full of people and shore gear. Took it to the dealer and they reluctantly replaced the handle-at their expense. $600.

I am having the same problem with the taps. This was very helpful. Looks like I'm pretty much screwed out of the next 2 weekends. With all of the problems I have had lately, it is looking more and more like I need a new boat.

I just recently had my throttle come loose, literally came off of the spline. I was surprised to see that Tige from the factory must not use loc-tite on the set screw. Anyhow, when I pushed the handle back on to the splines (while travelling at 30mph) I severed my TAPS electrical wire. I have just rewired back to the handle and I still have no TAPS. I have a 2004 20v, electrical taps with relay. Does anyone know if there is a fuse on this system or did the brain fry when all three wires made contact? Any help would be much appreciated.

you might want to check with Tige. I believe they had a recall in 04 or 05 for this situation and also swim step brackets coming loose.

If that is the case, it would be the first recall from Tige that I am aware of. There was a bunch of 2006 racks that had screws that were too small and they never recalled them. The racks have fallen off, hit people in the head, chipped fiberglass, ...

My bad, the "service advisory" notices were from July, 2003. Came from corporate. Advised of swim step brackets bending and welds braking. Second advisory same date warned of "a few shifter handles becoming loose, falling off of the shifter". asked to have dealer inspect on next regular scheduled maintenence trip. If you have any problems, I suggest you call Andrew Reyes-customer service manager (if he is still there) @ 325 676-7777.

Thanks guys, but do you know if there is a fuse? I will check with Tige in the am. Anybody having any problems with the 22 ve? I am considering buying one this upcoming year. The 20 V has been my second Tige. The first one I owned for 8 years and never had a problem (2200 SLM). It was one of the first 150 Tige's ever made. Have to say that I have been disappointed in my 20 V, but in reading other posts most people have been happy with them. Maybe I bought one made on a Friday at 4:30 pm. None the less, here I am contemplating buying another Tige. The 22 VE is definately one of the better designed boats for family, wakeboarding and skiing. Any info on this boat...either good or bad would be welcomed.
