I have found a 4 inch Copper Sleeve that slides freely up and down the prop shaft. Does anyone know what this is for or how to re-install it?

Sounds like it is the strut support bearing/sleeve. Those usually go in the strut arm. If it fell out, it probably needs to be replaced, or reinstalled. You have to remove the prop, then the drive shaft from the tranny coupler. I don't think there is a way to replace it with the shaft in place, but I really don't know.....I only have experience with my inboard and have never had to mess with it.
Does it look like this?
it goes in here
and you shaft goes through it.Last edited by spharis; 03-18-2007, 10:32 PM.http://www.wakeboatworld.com

Yes it is above the prop. The strut on the bottom of the boat is supposed to have a sleeve in it. If it isn't there, then it is your sleeve. If you do have your sleeve in you strut, then I don't know. If it is sized incorrectly, then it would e possible to slide it from strut to boat, or from strut to prop, and possibly from prop to hull, through the strut.
What year and model is your boat?http://www.wakeboatworld.com

Here is the only photo I could find. It was showing the FAE, and the prop is not on, but you can see the strut in relation to the prop shaft. Inside that strut there is a bushing. Is is like a bearing between the shaft and the strut. What you are describing sounds like your bushing. It seems to have loosened and fell out the top side. Without it the shaft will mar, and will vibrate pretty bad, possibly causing damage to the drivetrain. You are probably going to have to pull the shaft, and replace the bushing with a properly sized one.
Do you have photos?Attached FilesLast edited by spharis; 03-18-2007, 10:52 PM.http://www.wakeboatworld.com

Keep in mind it is not a real hard job, but it helps to have the right tools. I have an inboard with a tranny coupler that is pretty easy to drop the shaft out of. I have seen slide hammers to remove the shafts, I don't know what those are for. Mine looks like it is pretty easy to drop out. V-drives might be alot harder.
Lee may chime in on this thread for you. He is a wealth of info.http://www.wakeboatworld.com

For me, 90% of the maints. is done during winterizing. If you put a lot of hrs on each year, you might do a mid season oil change.
when I get the boat ready for the new season, is when I replace the raw water impeller. Other than that, I charge up the batteries and run it in the driveway to make sure everything is clean and dry and all fluids are full.
During the season, other than cleaning the boat, I will poke my head in the engine bay from time to time to make sure everything looks, smell, sounds ok.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

Pull the rudder (not the whole rudder box assembly) and prop, remove bolts from strut, disconnect/loosen packing seal, disconnect shaft from couple under the V-drive.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More
