Super Charger Questions?

Has Anyone Put A Super Charger On There Tige? If So,

1) What Brand Did You Go With?

2) Any Problems With Installing It?

3) Was The Chip Reprogrammed Or Was It Re Chipped?

4) How Many Pounds Of Boost Are You Running?

5) Do I Have To Do Anything To My Stock Set-Up..Rockers Crank Pulley Ect

6) What Else Do I Need To Know?

There Are Alot Of Weekends That I Have 12-14 People In My Boat. The Boat Is A Little Sluggish Loaded Up And I Would Like To Have The Acceleration Similar To My Friends Ford Lighting. My First Thought Was Putting One In My Truck. Ford Excusion( 5.4L), But It Is Very Tight In The Engine Compartment. After Looking Into It, I Realized How Easy It Is To Install One. So Yes, This Is A Serious ? I Don't Know Anyone That Wouldn't Like A Little More Response Behind There Throttle. 100 + Hp Is Like Putting In Another Engine In You Boat, So I Was Told. I Currently Have To Props For The Boat. I Have Noticed That Some Of These New Superchargers Add Kick In At Low RPM

Try a lower pitched prop. The more weight you have, the lower the pitch. With that many people, you should be using something like an 11x13. I doubt you're even taxing the engine but you are cavitating like there's no tomorrow!

Anyone that thinks dropping a supercharger on an engine is "easy" shouldn't be asking the question like it's serious......

That said, good luck in your endeavors. I think you will find it more ambitous and expensive than anyone would like to undertake.

I Guess I Should Reread My Post. I Don't Know How Easy It Is At All. In Fact I Don't Know Much About Mechanics. I Don't Even Have An Education. I Just Put The Post Out There Hoping That There Was Someone That May Have Attempted It With Some Success. I Am Going To Do Some More Research And Hope I Can Come Across Someone That Can Give Me Some More Advice. If It Gives Me More Horsepower And Torque At A Wide Range Of RPM I Will Have One Installed Or, Install It Myself...Just Because.

I am Dom of fortes Inboard we have been doing high performance work for 51 years . Installing a super charger is not that simple of a job. There are other issues to which you would have to be concerned with and the main one is the camshaft specs. Your best bet is to call the different blower manufactures and tell them what engine you have and they will give you there specs for your application . I would at that point do your cost and compare the price of a larger engine , it is a well known fact that the only thing that beats cubic inches is cubic dollars.

I would look into a better prop (dia & pitch) for improved wholeshot. If the prop is "slipping", than more horsepower will just create more "slippage".

Have you found a Marine SC kit? how much $$$ ?

Supercharger installs usually require heads, intake, cam, and sometimes lower end work (crank pistons etc) to run a decent amount of boost. There are also tons of issues dealing with fuel delivery, and reliability. It is not feasible for inboard si boat, unless you like spending money. You would be better off building a motor spec'd specifically to run x lbs of boost.

I Guess I Should Have Done Some More Research Before Making My Post. I Got The Idea From A Engine Builder That Suggested A Supercharger. I Am Not Sure If He DId Not Know What He Was Talking About, Or If His Interest Was $$$$. He Said That I Could Add About 5 LBS Of Boost Without Doing Cam Work, Head, Ect.

Have you looked at dropping in a 350ci engine that is already set up with 400hp and 420ft lbs of torque?

5 lbs of boost is pretty weak, and yes you can add that with a pro charger type blower, but they are hardly worth the cost. Pro chargers are around 2500-4000 for GM blocks. More bang for the buck is available via pills, or turbos.

For the same price you can rework a motor, and get way better results vs. 5 lbs of boost. The last car my pop built ran 17 lbs of boost.
