    Indmar Alternator over-voltage Recall?

Put my 2019 R23 w/ raptor 400 in the lake for the FIRST time [emoji30]couple weekends ago. Started the motor while on the trailer and I instantly got an over voltage error. The crank battery was being charged at 18.0V House battery 13.0V. Long story short, my dealer is saying Indmar will be issuing a recall on these high amperage alternators for concerns of catching fire(battery or alternator). My crank battery was so hot after running for 15-20min, that you could barely touch it.

Dealer said Indmar delivery pallet to the factory and a handful to them of new lower current alternator to replace the high current ones. Thoughts? Anyone experience this issue?

Get it in to get it fixed right away and get on top of your dealer. Indmar next day aired ALL the stuff we needed for affected boats in our fleet. Sounds like the voltage regulator is the issue. You probably would have seen 18.0v on the house battery too if you ran longer. You just saw it on crank because of ACR at startup. I'd get the boat into your dealer ASAP so you can get your new boat out and enjoy it. Or at the least get ahold of service manager and ask to get it done ASAP. It's not like it's a huge repair.

From a facebook post, word from a dealer, from tige, from indmar, park boat with switch OFF, do not use. Again, did not read this in an official statement, just passing on whats out there.

I did see up to 16.0v on house at one point. That was Saturday 4/27 and I took it in Tuesday 4/30 at 930am (the first day my dealer was open). Talked to them yesterday and they haven’t fixed it yet.

I also have a 1inch crack at the top of my rudder along with signs of attempted rework. The boat came from the factory this way and I noticed it on delivery day.

I also could barely get the Bimini to open correctly as the tow point on tower and Bimini are misaligned by 3-4inches.

I want to start off my relationship with my dealer and Tige on the good side, but........ so far not so bueno!

Also could not close one of the ballast valves between the full pump and hull due to a cooling hose is in the way.

All 3 of these items should have been caught at the factory right?

Also had a tight steering issue and a water leak too. [emoji1304]

Did Indmar send you different part# alternator or same part # with the high amperage capacity?

This is MERELY SPECULATION ON MY PART. I think that considering the heat/fire risk they did a blanket recall. Highly doubt every 230A alternator in the field is suspect, but better safe than sorry. So that being said Tige doesnt need to run the 230A as much as other manufacturers that are running dual fills with REVERSIBLES. The 95A works just fine (what all Indmar equipped boats have run for an alternator since 2014).

It would make sense from an inventory and a cost standpoint to replace 230s with 95s. To do it requires a bracket change too as the 230A is larger in size than the 95A. So the fix is new 95A alternator and a bracket change.

As to the rest of your list, some could have been caught at the factory. Ideally some would have been caught by the dealer on a PDI. I would be in close contact with your service manager and try to get these issues resolved. Not to be that guy because I know its frustrating to have problems with something the expensive right away, but REMEMBER, you will catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Sometimes coming in hot makes people less likely to put you at the top of the list. Good luck

Alternator recall aside, if you noticed an issue with the rudder as your boat was coming off the hauler at the dealer AND the bimini has not cooperating, one has to ask, why did the dealer do the delivery?

Yes, items should have been spotted and corrected at the factory. This is why dealers should do a shake down BEFORE a customer ever gets the boat. Should do another sea trial WITH customer at time of delivery.

Btw Bamer, we just got all our 95A alternators and brackets yesterday! So it's likely your dealer JUST got them in too. I'm sure they will jump on it soon. Im going to be in my shop Saturday swapping out alternators all day to make it right. Luckily most of the affected boats are on our lot in inventory but our boats that have already delivered are supposed to be coming back today and tomorrow.

Yes, I agree 100% with the honey n vinegar. That’s why I have been very respectful and polite to my dealer and plan to continue to be that way because I hope to have a long working relationship with them. I completely understand what the service guys go through as I have had jobs in similar situations. Lots of respect!

I have requested a sea trial when I pick the boat up.

We appreciate that man. Im just the guy in the back. Usually finding out who is in charge of scheduling work for techs will yield you getting in front of the line. Not to be that guy, and you shouldnt have to do this, but Ive had a couple customers that occasionally bring in a sixer or some other sort grease for the palms. I will tell you now that I will drop what Im doing to give those customers time in the parking lot should they have any problems in the future.

I am pretty sure Indmar gets the engine nearly complete from Ford. They add their exhaust, oil pan and cosmetic kit.

Kind of but theres some more. Basically they get an unpainted longblock. Beyond your list they are also adding the heat exchangers, trans and oil cooler, and Johnson impeller, and all the accompanying hoses to do the mentioned marinization. Also for the wakeboat guys the the trans and Vdrive. Jet boat guys are coupling directly to the flywheel but also are buying a different lift pump and high pressure pump for fuel. Oh ya and the ECM which is really where they are making some money(difference between 400 and 440 is the tune).

460 get a different intake all together. Havent clarified if 575 comes with the charger on it but I doubt it because supposedly Indmar worked with Rousch directly on that project so I would guess what they are doing is pulling OEM intakes and bolting on the charger.

But ya, they arent building as much as bolting on components supplied from vendors and painting. But that's basically a lot a marinized engine from PCM, MP, Indmar, MercCruiser and Ilmor .

They optioned the 230A to appease some other manufacturers builds IMO.

I'm still wondering how long and why Ford is continuing to build the 6.2 Raptor for Indmar when they quit putting in the trucks..

The new 95A alternator is doing its job. Just spent 4hrs on the water today with the family for the first time [emoji2]and all went well. My dealer addressed all of the other issues and hopefully we are good to go until first service. Checkout how the battery swelled...

You can get it in the Super Duty.

I know you can get the base 6.2L but dont think you can option the Raptor still?? I guess the heads are still in production. I'm wondering how long they will.keep the 6.2 as a gasser option after the new gasser starts in production vehicles.

Seems like it wouldnt make a ton of sense to keep it as an option with the above gasser and the 6.7L diesels, unless someone just wants a fleet truck or commuter and doesnt haul/tow.

I'm pretty darn excited about the new 7.3L gasser. Cool to see Ford get away from OHC and go pushrods. That plus keeping in multi port instead of direct injected.
