I did a disc brake conversion this past summer on my Dorsey trailer, the primary reason I did it was for ease of maintenance. My starboard brake cylinder failed so I figured it was a good time to do the conversion. I have not noticed any significant difference in the braking. The only bad thing about disc brakes is that if you have to pull the hub (e.g. to change bearings etc.) you have to remove the entire brake assembly, which is not easy to do if you are using the bolts with the red lock tight.
