    oil change on a 2150wt

I'm getting ready to ...sniff... ....winterize my 2150wt. This is the first year I've had this particular boat, so I looked specifically at changing the oil. what I found confuses me a little. It looks like the oil drain plug is on the very bottom of the oil pan, (not at the edge of the bottom to provide easy access) This configuration only leaves about 1", maybe 1 1/2" between the oil pan and the hull. How are you supposed to drain the oil without spilling oil all over the bilge? anyone done this before? I can think of some work arounds, but would rather not go to those lengths just to change the oil.

I am eager to hear your thoughts!!

    Thanks

Pump it out of the dip stick tube. This requires a pump that is built to do that, you can purchase one from any boat equipment store. Also run the boat for a little while if you can so the oil is thinner. The one I like is the very top one on the pasted link below.

I use an electric one that clips on the battery, like one that mtnsmith linked to. With the eng. warmed up, it pumps out almost as fast as draining your car.

Pumping is good. That's what the shops us.

There should be a long hose that is clipped to the top of the intake manifold. You slip the hose through the drain plug in the hull and let the oil drain out into whatever bucket you have. Caution, this method takes a very long time, but it's free.

There was a prior thread on this topic, I'll see if I can locate it.

Here is a picture of the hose clipped to the intake on my 2150.

From what I found not all of the engines that Tige has used had the drain hose. My friends centurion does not have a drain hose. His only option is the dip stick tube retrieval method.

I'll take a closer look for that hose, but either way, I am leaning towards the electric pump method. Seems like its easier, faster, and less messy. AND I can use it to easily change the oil in my lawn mower too :-) which unfortunately is NOT at Tige.

              Thanks for all the info!

I had an i/o that needed to be drained through the dip stick.I was told that leaves about a qt. in engine.I orderd the drain hose from skidim[I think]and hooked it up to drain hole.

If you use the electric pump be careful to make sure the drain hose stays in the receiving container. I was pumping mine this past Saturday and the hose came out and blew oil all over the engine. It took me two hours to wipe everything down!
