    subwoofer project complete PICS

Well I finished this earlier this year but I just learned how to add a pic. These were originally in a box in a closed compartment. They only sounded good when the compartment door was open. I was concerned about the "open air" debate but overall this sounds much better (not muffled).

Plus I gained a ton of space by getting rid of the box.

The higher you mount them, the more you can store. I can still fit my jumpstarter, tool box, and other misc. things in this compartment

Looks sick. What amp do have running those 2 12's?

                  jsz,

When you crank it up, do you get vibration in your storage locker door? Also, have you noticed a difference between the sound levels with the locker door open vs. closed?

I would bet that if you sealed those suckers up in a box they would sound even better! It looks great.

A lot of people build an in-place box behind the kick panel, using the kick panel as the front of the box.

I have plans on making this one of my winter projects.

My kick panel flexes a bit when the bass really hits on my sub, so I think the box will help tighten up the sound and reduce any flex.

The boat has 2 amps. I believe a JL amp is used for the subs. I bought the boat used and I'm not sure of any amp specs. I just know it sounds good.

I like it loud but I really don't "crank it". The locker door is snug and I have not noticed any vibration. When the door is open the quality of the sound goes down but not drastically.

I know it would! That was a huge debate for me. I would compare the sound quality by leaving the speakers unscrewed in the box. I would play a song and then slightly lift each speaker out of the box breaking the "seal" and listen to the difference. Although it was noticeable I felt that the new compartment would act as a box.
The pros of gaining space and not having muffled subs far outweigh whatever sound quality I might have lost.
