We have started to notice a couple problems with our 1999 21V with a 350 Mercruiser.
1) our serpentine belt is starting to squeal a little. It is a little random. Typically lower RPM and then goes away. Also after we have been riding for a while and start and stop a few times. . We put a new belt on it early last season because we chewed up a belt so I replaced a couple of the pulleys and put the new belt on. I thought it might need to be tightened but the tension pulley is maxed out so I can't get it any tighter? Did my belt stretch a little (not sure if it can do that just a thought.)? Is the belt to big to begin with?
2) this might be more serious. Sometimes When I go throttle down to nuetral we can smell a faint gas smell like the wave pushed it back into the boat. If the wind is in our face we can't smell it. It is definitely NOT coming from the engine compartment. I have stuck my head in there multiple times and can not smell any gas whatsoever and I have smelled the water draining from the bilge to see if I can smell any gas and zero gas smell. So I think I am dumping some gas out the exhaust? The engine is fuel injected not carbureted. Is it possible to run rich on a fuel injected boat? The boat seems to run fine all gauges read normal and it has no problem getting on plan loaded down so I don't feel like it missing a cylinder. I replaced the plugs early last yr or the season before that so I could pull them and take a look. Any suggestions on what I can check or look at?
Thanks guys! Been a great summer, rather Fix the problems in the garage before they become problems on the water and ruin the boat experience for the wife and 4 kids!
