Is the TAPS supposed to be in the up position for wakeboarding? If so, how far down does the plate go when it is in the slalom position. Mine only moves about an inch or so. Is that normal or should it be all the way down? Also, my plate is always in the up/wakeboarding position when I start but the gauge says its on slalom. Then I move it down, and it goes to wakeboard on the gauge. Am I totally wrong on this? If not, any suggestions?

Hope this helps: UP (#7) = WAKEBOARDING, DOWN (#1) = SLALOM.
The TAPS plate only moves a couple of in's total.
Could be low on fluid. A small leak such as a hose, checkvalve, or piston could be why it it returns to the up position after a while? just a thought.
After reading your post again, could be that your switch is upside down!Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

What do I need to do if the switch is flipped?
So just to clarify, if the plate is parallel to the ground, it is in wakeboard position, correct? That would mean that it is supposed to return to the wakeboard position, right? I'll check the fluid because it doesn't really go down very smoothly either. It's really jerky.

The switch might just pop out of the handle, turn over and pop back in.
Parallel or just above the 'plane' of the hull. It should stay were you left it last? I think!Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More
