How to check engine hours through ECM? 1999-2002 Mercruiser EFI

I am in the market for a Tige 21V/23V am want to compare the hour meter on the dash to how many hours are on the motor? Is there a specific diagnostic tool that I need for this? What would I need to do this when I go look at a boat?

    Thanks,
    Logan

I don't think it's possible for you to do it. A dealer should have the capability. Mine is a 97 and I had to remove mine and take it to these guys http://www.obd2allinone.com/mefiscan.asp
They were able to tell me the minutes so I could sync up my new tach with engine hours.
I did purchase their software and cable, but it will not show engine hours.

Lee, good suggestion. Will the DIACOM software allow you to read the engine hours?
