    Is this what my water pump looks like?

    For a GM Vortec 6.0 2006 marine power motor:

    is this where and what my pump looks like?

    Looks like a raw water pump to me. Remember, boats have two water pumps. The one pictured is a a raw water pump. It picks up water from the lake and pumps it to the circulating pump. The circulating pump pushes the water from the raw water pump through the motor. what seems to be the problem?

      That is the water pump. If that is from your V-drive, how did you take the picture? I helped change my impeller and it is really done blind. Long arms are helpful.

        Is this ( Raw water Pump) where the impeller is?

          Yes it is. I can give some advice on changing the impeller.

          Notice the direction the vanes in the old impeller have set. That is how you want rotate your new impeller into the housing. Lubricate the impeller with KY jelly when installing the impeller. It also helps to unbolt the stabilizing bracket and wiggle it to get the impeler into the housing. The impeller fits onto splines on the shaft and cannot be easily pushed straight into the housing.

          The kit with the impeller will also include a new cover casket so be sure and install the new gasket. The screws holding the cover are smal and can be easily dropped so use some care when removing the screws. Tighten the cover screws in a criss-cross pattern and do not tighten all at once to avoid warping the cover.

            Eee gad! Is that the easiest way to change it on a V-drive? In my D-drive, I just pull the whole pump off of the bracket and do the impeller change on the bench.

              Yep, that's why I make the dealer do it. They usually turn around this type of repair pretty quick (same day in many cases).

                  It's a 30 minute job tops even with the pump left on the engine. There is a seal where the shaft from the engine enters the pump. I felt it was best to not disturb the seal.

                    Looking at it again I can see why. The Merc. pump is a bit different in that it's extremely simple to pull the whole unit off.

                      If you don't already have em, get yourself a set of ratcheting open ended wrenches. They will save you a ton of time in those hard to get to areas. Usually a socket won't fit and a standard open ended wrench is to much of a pain in the butt when you only have room to make incremental turns.
                      Being a major OU fan and a staunch conservative.... I am perpetually vexed w/ the conundrum of who to hate more. Obama or the Univ. of Saxet.

                        There is another thread on this site somewhere that gives step by step info with pictures on how to change the impeller. Very helpful. After changing it twice now on my V-drive, I'm also a fan of pulling the whole thing off. I don't see how you could do it any other way.

                        (HINT- use 2 zip ties to squeez the impeller before sliding it in)

                        Shop near lake wanted $400 to replace mine. It took me 1 hour the 1st time and about 40 min the second. Save your money

                          I was planning on running mine one more weekend and then changing it right before labor day.

                          So I'm not totally sure if it's any tighter on the Tige compared to the other boats I've worked on.

                          My old glastron took me an hour the first time, and the second time it took me 15 mins as I got fed up and went and bought the ratcheting wrenches after the first time. They made all the difference in the world.
