      Possible Fix

      Kevin,

My boat kept dying for what seemed to be no reason. I replaced the ALternator, Plugs, Wires Etc. (2003 21i with 90 hrs). Nothing would work.

The main wiring harnes was the problem. In the very back of the engine there is a big round plug with a silver clamp around it. Make sure your batteries are off. Take that plug out and you will notice the 8 prongs. Split them apart, so that they look a little too wide. Stick that sucker back in, and I'm 90% sure your problem will be fixed. It sounds like your boat is acting like the ignition is dying. This wiring harness controlls the entire front of the boat.

Let me know if this helps.

          It is easy

OK, the plug is located on the very back (towards the Drivers side) of the boat. It is Black. It is not one of the many white square plugs that you will see around the engine. Just look for the big rubbery round plug in the back with a silver tightening band around it. Be sure to get that plug put back on real tight, perhaps even use some zip-ties.

          Good Luck,

If you need to you can call me and I can walk you through it.

Thanks it has not stalled since I tightened and cleaned plug but it has not been very hot. The one thing it does still do is somtimes it just kind of slowly idles down and stops.

              Enhancing Connectors

Try using this stuff on the connector. It provides insolation between contacts and improved conductivity contact to contact. I have used this stuff on computers for years and it has solved many problems. I see no harm in using the stuff on the boat connectors. The company also makes some contact cleaner that is pretty good. After treating the contact coat the connector with dielectric grease to keep out water.

You can buy the stuff at Radio Shack.
