RZ2 MERC 2007 - ENGINE STALLS WHEN WARM AND WONT RE-START RIGHT AWAY

I have a 2007 RZ2 with a Merc motor 360HP 500hrs- Over the last few months of usage the engine get noisy and then cuts, at this state it wont allow you to accelerate and there is a strong smell of gas from the exhaust. The engine then cuts and wont start (just turns) . if you leave it for 5 minutes it starts again and runs perfectly.. Has anyone had this problem or can guide me on what to check? i have changed the fuel filter and this did not help. Thanks

New fresh gas?

refueled the boat a number of times, also used a water displace additive without success..

Have you tried putting a fuel pressure gauge on it? What about running some fuel injector cleaner through it? 8 years old, injectors could be dirty or your fuel pump could be going out. Fuel pumps going out can have all sorts of different symptoms.

When was the last tune up?

I would check fuel pressure when the problem is occurring. Tune up items and injectors don't usually go from performing bad to performing normal. Make sure that you don't have a 2nd fuel filter hidden somewhere, many boats do.

The ones we sold were Marine Power.
