Fuel Pump 'Cool Fuel' system, Possible issue??

This link will give you a bit of background on issues I am having: http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...orpion-350-MPI

Took the cover off the Cool Fuel System because I noticed the incoming fuel line I could turn. Thought maybe I had a loose line.

Currently, the boat will start up and immediately die. Then you have to crank for ever or give it a little forward throttle to get it to start and keep the rpm's up a bit right after or it will die.

So got the cover off and noticed movement between the fuel pump and elbow.

So I pulled the assembly out of the box a bit and noticed the two pieces started sliding apart (pump sliding away from the elbow). Pulled them apart a bit and started getting fuel out of it so slid it back together. (Fuel stopped coming out)

I know nothing about marine fuel systems but this seems odd. Is it correct to have movement between the two or should it be a solid connection?

Really getting tired of all the problems. Would be nice to have one summer I'm not tearing into something!

    Nick

That is how those parts are designed.

X2 on what lee said i belive because you dont have a way to turn anything there to tighten the fittings this makes since using a slide union im only saything this becase i can see the other end also but it may need new orings or it could just need a ziptie to hold everything in place and solid you could try that first if that doesnt work check fuel pressure on the rail or carb. whatever you have and see if your fuel pressure drops when it dies if so you may have a bad fuel pump.

Hopps, how did you get to the fuel pump? We can't get into the box.

Did you pull the exhaust pipe? That should give you just enough room to pull the cover.

Yes, Mercruiser's ridiculously designed cool fuel…easy to get to (said no one, ever), easy to replace (said one guy, with an inboard), and totally reliable (thanks EPA for your corn subsidies…I mean stupidity). Yes, the parts are designed to do that.
