2006 24V Stalling after idle problem...

I took delivery of my 24V last August, one of the very first 06's built.

During delivery and al that week, every time we would let the boat idle for long periods (to change boarders, help the kids into their bindings, etc), the boat would stumble and die, taking several tries (sometimes 10 or more) to get started again, then we would run it up to speed and it would run fine.

I finally called Marine Power and they sent a new water pump with a fitting in it that I plumbed direct to the fuel cooler, instead of taking warm water off the heat exchanger and across the top of the motor to the cooler.

    Problem seemed fixed!

Last weekend when the temp hit 95 degrees and the water temp was close to 80 degrees, the same old problem surfaced once again.
The boat was idling while my wife got into her bindings, we got the rope ready, etc. and when I put the boat into gear to get ready to pull her, it died. After 15 restarts (I counted), the boat ran well enough to take it onto plane and run some fuel into it.
From then on, I kicked the boat into neutral and idled at 800-1000 RPM and had no more issues.

I know there were several 6.0 equipped boats that had this same retro-fit last fall.
Has anyone else had a recurring problem? Is there a better fix?
I have Marine Powers number and will be calling them as well, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had issues.

Thanks, and sorry for the long post.

Might have to get the ECM flashed.

The ECM was checked for the latest flash back then (Aug 15th or so), is there a new flash since then that would help this problem?

yes i have a fix for your problem. i work for fortes inboard connection a tige dealer in largo fl. we ran across this problem in a special made switch we have that has a 6.0L m.p engine in it. we use this boat to help sponsor the tampa bay waterski show team of wich we are members.the boat is in its 3rd season of pulling 5 man barefoot/ 5 man jump act just to name a few things. my point is we work this boat hard. when we first got the boat it did as you described. after we did some checking into cooling system we found a modifcation that cured this problem. the switch I has over 300 very hard hours of pulling and periods of long idle between acts and has never acted up since. i have also cured others wich we sold with 6.0L m.p engines. please have your dealer contact us and we will be glad to pass the info on and he can fix your boat or you could get the info from him if your a do it yourself kinda guy. let me know how it works out. oh i almost forgot this fix has only been tested on boats without heaters (we dont see boats with heaters here in fl.)so i have not had a chance to try it yet. i know it will help boats with heaters but i cant say it will cure them for sure yet but we are waiting to try and idea we have for fixing them as well. ps. are you watching temp gauge? what does it climb to when you are idling for the extended period . just curious. also feal free to contact us at fortesonline.com

I have a '05 24V with the 6.0L and this problem just started occurring the last couple of times out. It is currently at the dealer being worked on. My boat has a heater so I would appreciate any help you might have.

          Thanks

The temp gauge always reads a little above 175 on our boat even when we are having the problem. Don't know what it means but sometimes we hear a clicking sound right before or during the problem. We also have had problems with the engine cutting out while accelerating, not just when idling. However, it always seems to happen after using the boat for about 1-2 hours.
